Justin Masterson will be the Cleveland Indians opening day starter

Duri News -  Goodyear Arizona. Cleveland Indians manager Manny Acta announced on Friday Justin Masterson will be his opening day starting pitcher.


The Indians will open the 2012 Major League Baseball season versus the Toronto Blue Jays on April 5 2012.

Masterson in the 2011 baseball season won 12 games, lost 10 with an earned run average of 3.21 in 33 starts.

Masterson led the Indians in wins, earned run average, starts and strikeouts. He started last year with five victories in his first five starts. His 12 wins is his career high.

Masterson said he is honored to be the opening day starter "to set the tone for the season."

Masterson beat out Ubaldo Jiminez who was accquired by the Indians from the Colorado Rockies last season before the trade deadline as was penciled as the ace pitcher of the Indians and the staring pitcher formerly known as Fausto Carmona who is now named Roberto Hernandez.
