Duri News - Not even half way through and 2012 is already shaping up to be a big year for techies, as it will witness a smartphone battle royal with two of the biggest smartphone manufacturers, Apple and Samsung, head to head as they release latest versions of their best selling smartphones.
The highly-anticipated iPhone 5 and Galaxy S3 will both be vying for rule of the roost, as their near back to back releases will see users scrambling for the most hi-tech smartphone to date. And while Apple, in its usual reticence, is keeping the release of the iPhone 5 a mystery, Samsung will be reportedly launching its Galaxy S3 some time in April, and the United Kingodm will be the first country to have the phones as part of a London Olympic game's tie-in.
News of the launch was first reported by ZDNet Korea, which then confirmed the launch details with Samsung’s global marketing agency, although previous statements from the Korean tech giant had only stated that the release of the Galaxy S3 would happen sometime in the first half of the year, as an official statement says, “The successor to the Galaxy S2 smartphone will be unveiled at a Samsung-hosted event in the first half of the year, close to commercial availability of the product.”
Samsung’s official Twitter account, @samsungtomorrow, also added that the April release was untrue.
Of course, the launch is going to be significant as the Galaxy S3 promises a smartphone experience like no other; one that could possibly even outdo the iPhone 5.
The Galaxy S3 boasts some particularly impressive features. Firstly, the phone will be offering quite a large touch screen, around 4.8 inches that will display in full 1080P resolution, quite a step up from the S2’s 4.3 inch 800 x 480-pixel resolution. Backing up the S3 will be a 1.5GHz quad core Samsung Exynos processor with 2GB RAM, that will run the Android OS, the 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich as opposed to the Android 5.0 Jelly Bean, which is expecting release later on this year. The smartphone will also have 32GB of internal memory, LTE connectivity, NFC and possible 3D support with rumor of a 10 to 12 megapixel camera.
Samsung’s Galaxy series has often surpassed and even pre-empted Apple’s iPhone in features and this can possibly be a reason behind its phenomenal success, selling more than 20 million units, outselling the iPhone in the third quarter of 2011. And the Galaxy S3 will endeavor to cement this lead.
Tech website Boy Genius Report commented, “Samsung’s Galaxy lineup has been one of the most sought after smartphone lines worldwide. There is no question that consumers are interested in the Galaxy.
